Tora-san comes back to his old home in Shibamata. His university professor Mr Okakura (Masakane Yonekura) suddenly arrives at his home which makes Tora-san so angry that he plans to leave home. However, his old friend Chiyo (Kaoru Yachigusa) comes to visit him. The two of them begins to reminisce about old times, and has developed a kind of bonding between them. At the same time, Mr Okakura has become attracted to Chiyo, which makes this the first ever love triangle for Tora-san. Superstar Kinuyo Tanaka has a special appearance in this film.。物語は「監察医朝顔」のラストの翌年春から幕を開け、朝顔が母の遺体を探しに1人で東北を訪れたことによって新たな物語が紡がれていく。彼女が東日本大震災と母の死に深く向き合うさまや、前作では描けなかった東日本大震災以外の大規模災害にも相対する姿が切り取られる。。
