殷然（蔡思贝 饰）生长在一个和睦的家庭之中，为人正直善良，颇受朋友和长辈们的喜爱，然而，某日，厄运毫无征兆的降临到了她的头上，殷然的父母在一场事故中双双去世，保险公司拒绝赔偿，事故的起因亦颇为蹊跷。毕业后，殷然放弃了救死扶伤的医生志愿，转而成为了一名保险公司调查员，只为了有朝一日能找出事件的真相抚慰父母的在天之灵。 某日，殷然遇见了名为乔文杰（吴启华 饰）的陌生男子，乔文杰和管家张克莱（周骢 饰）过着离群索居的生活，身世过去都是谜团，这样的男子却和殷然组成了搭档，共同调查保险赔偿意外。乔文杰有着一段不为人知的悲伤往事，而凌若菲（李诗韵 饰）的出现让这段往事再度浮出水面。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
