男主张均陌小时候因为一场车祸失去了亲生父母，被一对过路的农村夫妇救助，长大后张均陌为减轻父母压力而进入工厂打工。寓居上海的李老先生，曾经参加北伐军，后因病辞去军职。抗日战争时期 ，其子国新继承父志，投笔从戎，不 幸负伤。经李老义子、名医陈时中悉 心治疗，不久伤愈。为庆贺国新康复 ，时中邀请国新和护士朱清华同去舞 场欢度新年。在舞场，清华遇幼时同 学阿莲，阿莲因养父逼迫，沦为舞女 。时国新和时中也认出阿莲原系旧时 邻家女，相见之下，互诉旧谊。不久 ，阿莲因不堪养父虐待，潜逃至清华 家避居。幸由李老出资调停，阿莲遂 与养父断绝关系，而随清华学医。。Two places are in focus in this soap.
